The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is an internationally recognized qualification developed as an equivalent to the UK’s National Curriculum. Endorsed by the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and Pearson Edexcel, it provides an English-language education alternative for students aged 14 to 17.
The IGCSE curriculum offers a flexible and comprehensive structure, allowing students to choose from a variety of subjects across Languages, Humanities, Sciences, and Mathematics. It includes O Level, AS Level, and A Level courses and emphasizes critical thinking, content mastery, real-world connections, and creative problem-solving. Assessment methods include written, oral, listening, practical tests, and coursework.
Students intending to apply to Egyptian public universities must pass 8 O Level subjects and 2 A Level subjects (with a minimum grade of C or 4 on the new grading scale), studied as extended—not core—curricula. All exam certificates must be earned within five sessions to be accepted for university admission.
