IGCSE

The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is an internationally recognized qualification developed as an equivalent to the UK’s National Curriculum. Students intending to apply to Egyptian public universities must pass 8 O Level subjects and 2 A Level subjects (with a minimum grade of C or 4 on the new grading scale), studied as extended—not core—curricula. All exam certificates must be earned within five sessions to be accepted for university admission.

University Admission Requirements in Egypt

For students aiming to enroll in Egyptian public universities, the Ministry of Higher Education stipulates the following:

• General Requirements

• 8 O Level Subjects: All studied under the Extended curriculum, not Core, with a minimum grade of C or 4.​

• 2 A Level Subjects: Or 3 AS Level subjects, relevant to the intended university major, each with a minimum grade of D.​

• Examination Sessions: All required subjects must be completed within a maximum of five examination sessions over three consecutive years.​

• Arabic Language Requirement: For exams taken from June 2024 onwards, students must pass IGCSE Arabic as a First Language; O Level Arabic is no longer accepted.​

• National Subjects: Students must pass national subjects of Arabic, Religion, and Civic Education, sitting these exams at times stated by the Ministry of Education

Faculty-Specific Requirements

• Medical Majors (Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Veterinary, Nursing):

  • 8 O Levels: Must include English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

  • Advanced Requirements: Biology A Level with a minimum grade of D, or 2 AS Levels—one in Biology and the second in Physics, Chemistry, or Math—with minimum grades of D.​

• Engineering, Computer Science, Fine Arts (Architecture Major):

  • 8 O Levels: Must include English, Math, Chemistry, and Physics.​

  • Advanced Requirements: Mathematics A Level with a minimum grade of D, or 2 AS Levels—one in Mathematics and the second in Physics, Chemistry, or Accounting—with minimum grades of D.​

• Faculties of Arts, Law, Political Science, Commerce, Mass Communication, Archaeology, Alsun:

  • 8 O Levels: English is mandatory, plus any 7 from subjects like History, Geography, French, Spanish, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, ICT, Computer Science, Environmental Management, Travel & Tourism, Accounting, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Thinking Skills, Drama, Art & Design.​

• Faculty of Science:

• Faculty of Applied Arts:
